Gateway
Gateway from VSR2 is middleware that merges SMS Text messages with email enabling you to expand your contact centre capacity and better serve your customers.

Do you:
- Have a contact centre?
- Have customer services?
- Accept phone and email enquiries?
- Want to better serve your clients?
- Wish to accept and respond to SMS enquiries?
SMS text messaging, especially amongst the young, is one of the primary methods of communication. As such it is crucial for companies to recognise this and to enable their customers to utilise SMS text messaging as a means to contact them.
Gateway works by accepting SMS text messages and converting them to email which are then distributed to the appropriate agent. The agent will know from the presented format that it is in fact derived from an SMS Text message and the reply can be tailored accordingly.
When the response is complete the agent replies via email and this is captured and converted by Gateway before being sent out to the mobile phone as an SMS Text Message.
Gateway can be sited on a non specific shared server and is not tied to any network or SMS messenger service. This allows you to fit it to your current provider via a simple off the shelf SMS gateway or SMPP Gateway (a direct SMS connection via IP to the service provider).
It is a very simple and very cost effective way of expanding your service provision methods and enabling your clients to contact you as they wish to.

SMPP stands for 'Short Message Peer to Peer' and it is a telecoms TCP/IP based protocol for SMS transfer which is quicker than GSM (essentially ordinary SMS).
SMPP connections are typically provided for higher traffic volumes than you would have on ordinary mobile phones and as such would be considered as commercially appropriate.
For smaller systems a Direct-to-Mobile gateway is an off the shelf unit with built-in wireless GSM connectivity. It is installed on your network and connects to your provider.
